What do you think kills more people in the desert than thirst? - Drowning in floods in a Wadi ( Wadis are cort of canyons that fill with rainwater in the mountains and send several meters high walls of water downwards. people often get killed by those. More often than starving due to a lack of water they drown.

Was that the answer to your own question? Probably thirst or exposure of some sort, I would imagine. I've camped in the desert before XD

In the context of a desert, maybe fatigue (lack of calories and other nutriments)?

That's ironic and counterintuitive. I think what makes people die in deserts is sadness.
