if we are all just stardust experiencing the universe, why do we get so annoyed when someone leaves the cap off the toothpaste?

The toothpaste is never about the toothpaste and the open cap. It's always about the underlying behaviour and conflicts that break out over little things like this (‘breaking the camel's back’).
But from the perspective of stardust, toothpaste doesn't really matter. Since the universe is (presumably) infinitely large, I see it as a rather poor basis for a relationship.
